Uncompleted list of Fake Dating and Teaching How to Kiss byler fics
When I was making that previous list of byler fics I stumbled on many fake dating and fake kissing fics that didn’t fit there, so here they are!
Fake Dating fics
Teenage Blues by @thornywords
Mike’s parents have an agenda for him, one he wants to avoid following. He doesn’t want to go to college. He doesn’t want to get a girlfriend or get married. Mike wants to sit in his room all day and play his guitar. That is until his mom forces him to bring a date to a family celebration, and he thinks of a brilliant plan to piss his parents off…
Mike and Will start a fake relationship to piss off Mike’s parents but they end up becoming more—I don’t wanna keep secrets just to keep you by mogiah (@morganee)
Mike comes to Will’s rescue when a girl starts to flirt with him.suddenly i had a valentine by RomeoWrites (@itsromeowrites)
“We’re engaged,” Mike says casually to Will over their morning coffee. OR Mike and Will fake an engagement to get a Valentine’s Day discount. Or so Will thinks.winterland by hopperbyers
Oh. She thinks he and Will are dating.
And Mike knows it’s wrong, he knows it is, but his mom is waging psychological warfare on him in the frozen food section at eight in the morning, and he hasn’t even had coffee yet, and he really, really needs this. It would be vindicating. It would be his one chance at proving to his family that his thing for Tom Cruise wasn’t a phase. And most importantly, it would be kind of hilarious.
Teaching How to Kiss fics
bad idea! by @wayward-sherlock
Will asks Mike to teach him how to kiss. chaos ensues.lousy kissers by borealisaurora
Mike Wheeler has been told by girls multiple times that he’s a bad kisser, so his college roommate Will Byers offers to show him how to do it and give him some pointers. This experiment may or may not lead to Mike realizing some things about himself, including that he might not be such a bad kisser after all.we could kiss (just like real people do) by @mikeslawyer
“For practice. You’ve never kissed anyone and I haven’t kissed anyone in a long time, so - yeah. I can show you how to and then you’ll know, when you find a girl you like.”

Consider this messier than Monica’s secret cupboard. I’ll be using images of other characters creatively, so please come prepared and select your Suspension-of-Disbelief Goggles carefully:
Player 1 - The Pince-Nez of a Pathetically Uncool Pizza Parlour Fool
Player 2 - Bomb Disposal Intern Goggs
Player 3 - Gran’s Walmart Bifocals
Player 4 - The IT’S IN MY MOUTH! SHIIIIIIIT! Spectacles
Here we go!
Just to let you know that the byler kiss
isn’t just going to be full of finally-resolved romantic tension and desire and passion etc etc but literally an expression of true love and feeling, it’s not just going to be a kiss because they’re a couple and that’s what couples do, or even because they’re in love and that’s what people in love do, but because it’s a pure communication of how they feel about each other
it’ll be as a natural as giving the tightest hug to someone you love, except that when you’re in love, a kiss becomes the most natural thing instead
and that’s why it’s not necessarily going to be awkward (depending on how they play it/the scene context) and also why it could never be crass or gratuitous or gross, because it’s literally the only way they’ll be able to express how they feel to each other beyond words
like… words are great, amazing, fab, but at some point words aren’t enough to reach that depth of feeling. and that’s why it’s such a shame so many viewers (though really, is it THAT many? Really? I think it’s a select stubborn few tbh) can’t see all the unspoken things between Mike and Will because words are only one layer of all the ways we can express ourselves to each other. And language is a construct, an invention, and so therefore it changes the way we think, the way we CAN think, it adds limits and context and frames our thoughts. But physical expression is boundless and the most natural thing we have
And that’s why a kiss - or more, if they go there - could never be just a ticked box for these characters, or for this show.
“I don’t want things to change.”
MIKE WHEELER & WILL BYERS
IN S03E08 - The Battle of StarcourtThis was the last time that they were ‘just kids.’ This was the last time Mike hugged Will. This was the last time Will felt like he could fight for his place in Mike’s life. This was the last time Mike could reach out to Will and not think about how it looked. This was the last time they were hidden. This was the last time they were young enough to stand a little too close together, run after each other in the rain, too old to hold hands, too young to not make mistakes and say things they didn’t understand. This is the last time they could hold each other close and not be scared of being seen as ‘something more.’
This is also when they said goodbye. Six months later when Mike landed in Lenora, when they said hello, things were different. Everything had changed.

Case should be closed based on this alone
Exactly!
I really truly believe Mike will quote Will from the van but will instead say what he actually means, “I need you, and I always will.” Like how good would that be
Mike doesn’t hide in contrast to Will being good at hiding. It would be so perfect oh my god

This is a callback to shed scene. They were talking about how Owens treated Will so they’re obviously talking about his possession and not his disappearance. When did Mike help save Will? The shed. Okay so why are we being reminded of the shed scene? They end this conversation saying that saving the world will be up to them again. This prediction doesn’t really come true, though. Or does it?
The closest time Will and Mike are involved with the supernatural plot is during Mike’s monologue. They were trying to save El from Vecna! So if the only time their “it’s going to be up to us” agreement comes true is Mike’s monologue, we can assume the callback to the shed scene is meant to connect to the monologue. These scenes are supposed to be compared.
The shed scene and the monologue have many similarities. Will and El are both tied up, they’re stuck in their minds, the lighting is intense, there are three other people watching, and Mike recalls the first day he met both of them. There are key differences that make these scenes contrast, though.
Mike wasn’t prompted by anyone to talk to Will and his feelings were his alone. Mike had to be told to talk to El and based his speech on someone else’s feelings. In the shed, it seems like Mike is alone despite others being in the room. The complete opposite is done for the monologue, they even focused on other reactions throughout. Mike’s monologue felt more like a performance than an intimate moment because of this. The vines around El’s neck get tighter as Mike speaks, but Will’s hand breaks further out of possession. This just proves that El unraveling the vines during Mike’s monologue would show his love giving her power and that’s exactly why they didn’t do that! But they did do it with Will.
Mike believes meeting Will was the best thing he’s ever done after of years of friendship. Mike says he loved El at first sight instead of after he got to know her. Wouldn’t the best thing he’s ever done be the day he met El if his life started that day? If he knew it was love at first sight like he says, he wouldn’t have said that to Will one year after he met El. The gate closes after the shed scene, but the gates rip a hole through Hawkins after the monologue.
These differences tell a clear story. Mike said those things to Will because he wanted to, but he said that to El because he felt like he had to. Mike’s speech to Will was an intimate moment while his speech to El was a performance. Mike’s love helped Will break out of possession, but his love did not help El. Mike’s feelings for Will were created after getting to know Will, his feelings for El are based on their initial meeting. Mike’s love for Will saved the world, his love for El did not.
I know these scenes have been compared many times already, but I just wanted to explain how we aren’t comparing them out of nowhere. We’re supposed to compare them because the scene in Jonathan’s room set that up! They reminded us of the shed scene so we would later have something to compare it to, proving that Mike’s heart goes towards Will. They’re telling us the truth by foreshadowing parallels!
